Syed Ishaq · Infrastructure BIM Manager · Abu Dhabi

Everything under the road, coordinated before it's dug.

I lead BIM delivery for roads and buried utilities: stormwater, sewer, water, power and telecom. My job is making the model agree with the ground, so clashes get solved on screen and not in the trench.

A civil engineer who manages models

Portrait of Syed Ishaq, Infrastructure BIM Manager
Syed IshaqBIM Manager · Abu Dhabi

I bridge design, site and data. Twelve years of BIM taught me that a good model is one the site team can trust.

I hold a Diploma in Civil Engineering and have more than 17 years in the industry. Today I lead BIM delivery for residential infrastructure packages in Abu Dhabi, working between the client, the designer, the supervision consultant and the site team.

My day is longitudinal profiles, crossing clearances, duct setting-out, grading checks and clash reports. When the same check comes up every week, I turn it into a Civil 3D command so the team can run it in seconds.

I work to ISO 19650 information management principles and hold two BSI qualifications:

02 · Expertise

Wet and dry utilities, roads and grading

Colour-coded the way they appear in a coordination model.

Stormwater

Gravity networks, profiles, structure depths and crossing clearances.

Sewerage

Pipe networks, invert levels, manhole and chamber conflicts.

Potable water & irrigation

Pressure networks, cover checks and crossing coordination.

LV/MV & street lighting

Duct banks, road-crossing ducts, setting-out and duct schedules.

Telecom & MCC

Duct routes, sleeves and coordination with wet services.

Roads & grading

Alignments, road profiles, junction grading and earthworks quantities.

Clash approach

Not every clash is a clash

Detection is software. Decision is engineering. I separate the nature of a clash from its impact, then rank it so the team spends time on what matters on site.

  1. DetectRun clash tests across disciplines
  2. ClassifyHard or clearance clash
  3. ResolveEngineering fix with the designer
  4. VerifyQA/QC before closing

Critical

Affects safety, constructability or operation. Resolve before construction.

Major

Needs a design change, with a clear engineering fix.

Minor

Model tolerance or annotation issue. Close it in QA/QC.

Civil 3D tools I built

C# (.NET 8) plugins for Civil 3D 2026, loaded as one ribbon tab, plus AutoLISP utilities for drafting cleanup.
